The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for heavy rain set to affect several parts of Wales from Sunday evening. The warning highlights the potential for persistent rainfall to become heavier later in the day bringing an increased risk of localised flooding and travel disruption.

It comes a week after another amber warning, issued during Storm Bram, caused widespread disruption in parts of the country, particularly in Wales. According to the Met Office rainfall totals of between 20mm and 30mm are expected to fall in some areas by midnight on Sunday.

While impacts are expected to be limited, the combination of prolonged rain and already damp ground conditions could lead to surface water flooding in vulnerable locations. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here

The warning issued on Sunday afternoon applies to a number of Welsh local authorities. Areas affected include Bridgend, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Swansea and the Vale of Glamorgan. The below map indicates the affected areas.

Residents in these regions are being urged to take sensible precautions. The Met Office advises people to check whether their property is at risk of flooding and, if so, to consider preparing a flood plan and assembling an emergency flood kit. This could include essential items such as important documents, medication and basic supplies.

Those planning to travel are encouraged to check road conditions in advance and stay up to date with bus and train timetables. Drivers should allow extra time for journeys, while public transport users may wish to amend their travel plans if disruption is expected.

The Met Office also reminded people to prepare for the possibility of power cuts. Simple steps such as gathering torches, spare batteries, mobile phone power packs, and other essential items can make a significant difference if outages occur.

The warning has been classified as yellow, meaning there is a medium likelihood of the weather occurring but a low overall impact expected.

However, officials stress that weather conditions can change quickly. When warnings are issued the public is advised to monitor local forecasts regularly and stay informed of any updates.
