The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for Wednesday, December 17 affecting areas across Wales. The forecaster warns of potential flooding as heavy and persistent rain is expected to sweep the country for 14 hours.

The yellow warning has been issued from 10am on Wednesday morning until midnight. A Met Office forecast said: “A period of rain, heavy at times, especially over high ground, will move east across this region during Wednesday. Coming off the back of recent very wet weather, some travel disruption and flooding is possible.

“15-25 mm of rain is likely to accumulate quite widely across the warning area, but 40-60 mm is possible over the high ground of Dartmoor and the hills of south Wales. Rain should clear to the east during the latter part of Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday.”

Spray and flooding is expected on Wednesday that could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. Where flooding occurs, there is a chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services and there is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings and the Met Office says there is is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads.
