Bristol City are in conversation with former Liverpool youth prospect Ranel Young over a potential move to Ashton Gate, Bristol Live understands, but no deal has yet been agreed at this stage.
Young, who is 19 years old, left Liverpool at the end of the 2024/25 season having opted against extending his stay at Anfield. Instead, the teenager opted to make the move to Serbia where he joined FK Usce.
The versatile winger has made five league appearances for Goran Dragoljic’s side this season, assisting once. The last of those five outings came in September when the former Liverpool youngster played 45 minutes in a 2-0 win over FK FAP Priboj.

Since then, Young has not been included in any of FK Usce’s last 12 matchday squads, with websites such as Transfermarkt listing the teenager as without a club.
Prior to his spell in Serbia, the versatile forward joined the youth ranks at Anfield as an Under-12 from Huddersfield Town. Young progressed through the age groups on Merseyside, featuring in the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League before he put pen to paper on his first professional contract in May 2023.
At the start of the 2024/25 campaign, the teenager linked up with Liverpool’s Under-21 side and also had his first experience of a first-team matchday under the management of Arne Slot.
Young was named on the Reds’ bench for their Carabao Cup clash against Brighton in October 2024. Ultimately, he was an unused substitute as Slot’s side ran out 3-2 winners thanks to a Cody Gakpo brace and a second-half Luis Diaz strike.

While the 19-year-old didn’t manage to make a competitive appearance for Liverpool, he was again included in the Reds’ matchday squad when they were beaten by Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup. Once more, Young was an unused substitute as Adam Randell and company pulled off a fourth-round upset at Home Park.
Although City are understood to be in conversation with the forward, who can play both centrally and out wide, Bristol Live understands nothing has yet been agreed between the player and club at this stage.
With the January transfer window now just a matter of weeks away, Gerhard Struber has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his squad during the winter.
The Robins boss is eager to complete the work started in the West Country this summer, with attacking reinforcements expected to be high on his agenda.
