Joe Alwyn attended the London photocall for Hamnet at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre this afternoon, and it marked a noticeable departure from his usual red carpet lane.

The British actor wore an ensemble from Marni’s Prologue collection—a precursor to the brand’s next chapter ahead of Meryll Rogge’s first full collection debuting in February 2026. Conceptually, it’s an interesting moment for the house. On Joe, however, the result feels more complicated.

Joe typically excels when clothes sharpen him. Clean lines, close tailoring, and a sense of clarity tend to work in his favour. Here, Savile Row Joe has very much left the building. The Shetland wool jacquard vest layered under a matching cardigan, paired with softly structured grey trousers, is doing a lot—and he’s slightly lost inside the idea.

At various angles, he looks like the gentle heir to a Scandinavian knitwear dynasty. At others, there’s a whiff of children’s TV presenter energy. It’s not that the look is bad; it’s that it overwhelms him rather than working with him.

I initially thought removing the cardigan might have helped, but on reflection, perhaps the vest was the real culprit creating that bulk. Either way, I’m having hot flashes on his behalf. This feels like a look better suited to someone with an NFL build—Stefon Diggs or Travis Kelce might have powered through this look with ease.

Thoughts?
