A former police officer has been arrested over several non-recent sexual offences alleged to have taken place while he was on duty.

In a statement, the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland said the arrest was made today (Wednesday) after a complaint and the launch of a criminal investigation.

The alleged offences include misconduct in public office and a number of “serious” sexual offences, it said.

The PSNI has been contacted for comment.

In a statement, the police watchdog said: “Following a complaint and the commencement of a criminal investigation, the Police Ombudsman has today (Wednesday 17 December) arrested a former PSNI officer for several, non-recent offences alleged to have been committed while he was on-duty and a serving police officer.
