US burger chain favourite Wendy’s is set to open its first Scottish store this week in Paisley, Glasgow, and is offering its first customers the chance to grab some delicious burgers completely free. Set to feature a drive-thru lane along with the restaurant, Scots can dig into a tasty treat while on-the-go.

Opening on Linwood Road in Paisley on Friday, December 19, this new store will mark a huge milestone in the US brand’s expansion into the UK. With 48 locations currently in the UK, the Paisley restaurant will be the 49th store to open, with other locations set to follow.

Doors will open at 10:30am on Friday, with the Paisley Wendy’s team giving away free burgers to anyone who arrives at the restaurant before doors open. Scots will be able to experience Wendy’s iconic menu, which includes the classic squared beef patty burgers – such as the Baconator – and Spicy Chicken Sandwich and chicken nuggets.

Foodies can also enjoy some delicious crispy fries from the vast menu. And for those with a sweet tooth, Wendy’s will be offering a creamy Frosty dessert, with the brand hailing the signature showstopper as the “diva of desserts”.

Strategic operations manager at Square Burgers – the Wendy’s franchise organisation that owns and operates the Paisley restaurant – Arron Morley, said: “This new Wendy’s restaurant in Scotland shows our commitment to investing in more communities across the UK, from serving high-quality freshly-prepared food, to creating new local jobs. And from the very first day, we want to give Scots a free taste of what’s in store.”

The Wendy’s website states that the Paisley restaurant will be open from 8am to 12am (midnight) every day, apart from Sundays when it will close at 11pm.

Wendy’s is also said to operate through delivery services such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat, so hopefully these will be available to allow customers to enjoy a juicy burger from home.

Michael Clarke, managing director Europe for The Wendy’s Company, said: “We are thrilled to celebrate Wendy’s expansion into Scotland and support our franchisee, Square Burgers, in this new market.

“This restaurant opening is another example of Wendy’s commitment to meet consumers where they are, while delivering craveable food alongside exceptional hospitality.”

It was also announced earlier in the year that Wendy’s is set to open a restaurant in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. This would make it the 50th UK spot and the second in Scotland.

This expansion into the UK has also seen four other new stores opening across the country, including Blackpool, Grays (Lakeside), Watford and York. This venture has been able to create over 150 new jobs.

Michael added: “We see huge potential in the UK market, with plans to add more than 150 new restaurants across the UK and surrounding countries by 2028.

“This year, we will focus on accelerating our expansion efforts so more people across the UK can enjoy Wendy’s craveable menu and exceptional customer hospitality.

“We have a solid foundation in the market and believe we are well-positioned to accelerate our growth trajectory even further.”

It is not yet known when the Sauchiehall Street restaurant will be opened.
