Gustavo Hamer could be set to leave Sheffield United if they do not achieve promotion this season, sources have told Football Insider.
The Blades’ star is widely regarded as one of the Championship’s best players, and he is expected to try and push to play Premier League football next summer.
Sheffield United are expecting interest in Hamer again in January, and while they have no intention of selling the midfielder, they are likely to lose him in the summer.
Hamer is due to enter the final year of his contract at Bramall Lane at the end of this campaign, and sources say that he will be looking to move on if Sheffield United remain a second-tier side for next term.

Sheffield United fans ripped into Hamer after their recent defeat to West Brom, as he endured another difficult afternoon in what has been a frustrating campaign for him so far.
He has managed just three league goal involvements for Chris Wilder’s side in 2025-26, and he will be desperate to get back to his creative best in the second half of the season.
Hamer’s desire to test himself in the Premier League is clear after the way that he performed during the Blades’ last top-flight adventure back in 2023-24.

The Brazilian-born star managed 10 goal contributions in the South Yorkshire outfit’s latest relegation season, and that could pove enough evidence for top-flight clubs to begin sniffing around him once again.
Stars aligning for Sheffield United to sign Joe Rothwell
Sheffield United are among the clubs chasing Joe Rothwell ahead of the January transfer window.
The Rangers star is being heavily linked with a return to the Championship, as his move north of the border is yet to yield the desired level of success.
Rothwell has quickly become little more than a bit-part player for the Glasgow giants, who are now keen to offload him at the earliest possible opportunity in January.
Wilder’s United are one of the main interested parties, and the stars may be aligning for them to strike a deal, with Rothwell also keen to get away from Ibrox this winter.
The 30-year-old has consecutive promotions from the Championship on his CV of late, and he would be a welcome addition to United’s midfield, despite his recent struggles.
