Sacha Boey’s time at Bayern Munich has been complicated. He was a player purchased in a winter transfer window (January 2024) when Thomas Tuchel was still manager of the club, having been brought in from Galatasaray during a period when Bayern had a laundry list of injuries to their first team. At the time, the Bundesliga title race with Bayer Leverkusen has not been mathematically ruled out and Bayern was still in the Champions League race, where they ultimately made it to the semi-finals.

Nonetheless, Boey has never been a first choice right back at Bayern for either Tuchel or Vincent Kompany, and he has perhaps even played less under Kompany than he might’ve had Tuchel stayed at Bayern for a longer period. Since making the move from Galatasaray, Boey has made a total of 17 appearance for the German Rekordmeister, having missed most of the beginning phases of this season due to a meniscus injury.

Per information from Belgian football journalist Sacha Tavolieri (via @iMiaSanMia), Boey is very much open to leaving Bayern this summer and moving back to France, where he played earlier in his career. He had tenures at both Stade Rennes and Dijon before going to Turkey to play for Galatasaray.

While there are not currently any concrete offers for Boey from Ligue 1 clubs, his profile has been presented to all of Olympique Lyon, Marseille, and OGC Nice. While Bayern’s preference would be a permanent sale of the defender during this summer’s transfer window, that could be a problem due to financial hardships clubs in France are navigating through as a result of television rights problems in the country. Because of that, there is also a possibility that interested French clubs would opt for a loan deal with an option to buy to be able to afford Boey. He is currently valuated at 18 million euros via Transfermarkt, which is slightly lower than the 30 million fee Bayern paid to get him from Galatasaray.

Either way, Bayern would more than likely be taking a bit of a financial hit if and when they offload Boey to a French club considering how much they paid for him last year.
