Sheffield United host Birmingham City in the Championship on Saturday as both sides look for a big win.

Sheffield United come into this weekend’s clash with Birmingham City looking to get back to winning ways. SUFC saw a six-game unbeaten streak ended by West Brom last time out.

The Blades have been on a push away from the Championship relegation zone under Chris Wilder and currently sit 18th in the division. There is still only four points between them and the bottom three, but improvements under the legendary boss have raised hopes for the rest of the season.

Wilder will be hoping to make it five unbeaten on home turf as they return to Bramall Lane.

As for Birmingham City, their struggle for consistency means they sit 13th in the division. They’re only five points off the play-offs, but their failure to string results together is preventing them from making real progress.

Last weekend, the Blues were frustrated on home turf by Nathan Jones’ Charlton Athletic. Christoph Klarer opened the scoring but a second half goal for Tyreece Campbell ensured the points were shared.

City will be apprehensive as they head away from home again. They have one of the worst records on the road in the Championship, managing just eight points in 11 away matches.

Birmingham City’s 2025/26 away record

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“I’m looking forward to seeing what this game has in store for us. Both Sheffield United and Birmingham City will be eager to surge up the table over the second half of the Championship campaign but they have a lot of work to do before they can.

“SUFC need strong winter recruitment to add depth, while the Blues must improve on the road if they’re to get anything from this season.

BCFC - Birmingham City manager Chris Davies looks on

Chris Davies‘ side have lost seven of the last 10 Championship away games they have played. Given the talent throughout their squad, that is simply not good enough.

“Heading to Bramall Lane to face a tricky Blades side, it is hard to see the visitors getting a crucial win. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see an entertaining draw.”

Prediction: Sheffield United 2-2 Birmingham City

Luke Phelps

Birmingham City just can’t seem to find any kind of consistency with their form this season. They’re holding their own and I don’t think they’ll be in danger of going down, but I can’t seem them breaking into the top six either.

Sheffield United meanwhile are propelling up the table as many thought they would after their tough start. And after seeing their winning run end in the last two games they’ll want to take full advantage of being at home this weekend against a very mixed Blues side.

“I think this could be a very good game and I’ll go for an SUFC here.”

Prediction: Sheffield United 2-1 Birmingham City
