A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash in South Bristol this evening.

Police were called just before 6pm tonight (Thursday, December 18) to the incident on Bishopsworth Road, in Bedminster Down.

Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement tonight that the pedestrian was hit by a car and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Officers have contacted their family and are supporting them.

The driver remained at the scene and is not believed to be injured, added the police statement. There have been no arrests.

Avon and Somerset Police said the road, as of 9pm, remains shut between its junctions with Cardill Close and Banwell Close while collision investigators examine the scene.

Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys.

Anyone who saw what happened or has any relevant dashcam or other footage which could help, is urged to call 101 and give the reference 5225355358.
