Bristol Blue Glass has announced it is “in talks” regarding a future new home for the business.

The iconic Bristol institution famous for its blue glass creations, in-house glass blowing workshops and more, posted a message to Instagram on March 21 asking for Bristolians to help find a new home for the business, currently located on Bath Road, near Arnos Vale Cemetery.

In the post, Bristol Blue Glass said: “We are in the process of trying to find a new premises.

“Unfortunately, our lease has come to an end, and we are having to move our entire business… the hotfloor, the engraving studio, the shop, and the office and storage facilities.

“All need to be moved to a large enough space located as close to the city centre as possible.

“The building specification has to be Class B2 – General Industrial, preferably with a 12/2” gas pipe (or at least able to have one fitted).

“Any help would be appreciated. Kind Regards, The BBG Team.”

The news came some four months after it was reported that the business would be closing its Bristol High Street shop.

In its announcement at the time, it described how it had “been a struggle since reopening after Covid“, and said: “With changes within the city and more changes to come, it has been decided that when the lease runs out in January, it would be wise to close the doors for good.”

The much loved glass makers, who create everything from glassware and gifts, to Christmas decorations, have been operating in the city for more than 30 years.

But in November 2024, the team announced that the High Street store would be closing at the end of January.

At the time, the team confirmed that the Bath Road retail store would still be open for business and the furnaces would still be roaring away for people to come and watch the makers.

While the Bristol Blue Glass team couldn’t give too much information on the latest updates surrounding the Bath Road site, when speaking to BristolLive on Wednesday, April 30, they simply confirmed that they were “in talks” regarding a new home.

The local business has recently started making amethyst glass, and recently posted messages to Instagram regarding ideas for a new ‘dinky’ collection, as well as Ombre summer glasses and glass toadstool mushrooms.

It even launched a brand new website last week.
