Residents heard ‘clattering’ before seeing police descend after a man was injured in a suspected stabbing in Stockport. Emergency services descended on Belmont Street, in Heaton Norris, in the early hours of Saturday morning (December 20).

Witnesses described seeing a large police presence at around 12.30am, with paramedics also on the scene. Greater Manchester Police says a man suffered stab wounds – but the cause of the injury is not yet known.

He was rushed to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening. Forensics investigators were seen on Athol Street, off Belmont Street, later this morning.

Officers were seen knocking on doors in the neighbourhood as enquiries continue. A Belmont Street resident told the Manchester Evening News she had been woken up by her partner, who heard police attend the scene in the middle of the night.

An Athol Street resident added: “It kept me awake most of the night. There was a lot of banging, clattering, car doors going.”

A GMP spokesperson said: “We are investigating how a man came to have stab wounds at a property on Belmont Street, Stockport in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, December 20 2025). He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries, which aren’t described as being life threatening or changing.

“We believe the incident to be isolated, but enquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances.” GMP has been approached for a further update.
