The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) has set out its five key trends for environmentally friendly décor, including waste reduction, low-impact techniques, and long-lasting design choices.

Neil Ogilvie, chief executive of the PDA, said: “We always advise working with a PDA member to give yourself the assurance that the person you’re inviting into your home is a trained, trusted painter and decorator who carries the appropriate insurances and is committed to providing a quality job at a reasonable price.

“PDA members can opt-in to our Paint Green initiative, a flexible approach to embedding sustainability practices and reducing waste.

“Anyone considering a sustainable home make-over can look for the Paint Green logo, which signifies a commitment to driving down waste by reducing, reusing or recycling excess paint and containers.”

The PDA also recommends considering eco-friendly paint options, emphasising surface preparation for longevity, consulting professionals on colour and finishes, and considering techniques like spray application, with some models using less paint than brushes or rollers.
