The former Farmfoods shop in Acomb, York, is set to be taken over by another retailer soon.
Farmfoods closed its freezer store on Front Street just over a year ago, despite locals urging the retailer bosses to keep open “one of the most consistent low-priced shops” in the area.
It has stood empty since and become something of an eyesore on the otherwise bustling Front Street.
Now though an application has gone in to occupy and transform the building. But it’s not a new shop moving in, but a current store upsizing.

Savers, the health and beauty brand which currently operates from the unit next door, wants to take over the old Farmfoods.
A planning application to City of York Council asks for permission to put the Savers branding on the front of the shop, and replace the stairs at the back, which are “in poor condition and are no longer sufficient for the building”.

“The signage has been carefully designed to integrate with the new shopfront, reinforcing a consistent and considered aesthetic across the entire façade,” planning documents say.
“Overall, the proposals improve the long-term appearance, coherence and maintainability of the building while respecting the architectural integrity of the entire street scape.”
