Fans had come for an evening of comedy, but it was two touching moments from Adam Rowe that people will remember most

Popular Liverpool-based podcast Have A Word returned to the M&S Bank Arena last night for what was a near sold out show that saw surprise performances from Johnny Bongo and comics including Seann Walsh, Jamie Hutchinson and Mike Rice – before the night was rounded off by a performance from an unexpected musical duo.
Kicking off the evening there was stand-up sets from the podcast’s co-hosts Adam Rowe and Dan Nightingale before they revealed the first surprise guest of the night, former I’m A Celeb star Seann Walsh, who has been a long-time friend and guest of the hit podcast.
However, amid the typically crude jokes listeners have come to love since the podcast first started in 2020, it was a few moments of sincerity from Adam Rowe that stayed with fans as they made their way out of the arena last night.
During one secret Santa-styled segment of the show that saw the podcasters exchange a number of quirky gifts with one another, Adam Rowe revealed that instead of giving co-host Finn Kulavuz a physical gift he was instead going to give him the “biggest moment of his life”, the chance to play in front of the M&S Bank Arena with his band.

Lost for words, Finn quickly made his way off stage before reappearing a few moments later with his band to play one of his most listened-to songs, Cherry, to what is the biggest crowd yet for the up and coming artist originally from Ryhl.
But it was another moment from Adam Rowe towards the end of the night that really stole the show. Playing their own version of Family Fortunes, two members of the audience were picked to join either Dan’s team or Adam’s, with one of them having the chance to walk away with a huge £1,000 cash prize if they answered a certain amount of podcast related questions correctly.
However, unable to tot up the required amount of correct answers, Adam humorously quipped that the audience member would not be walking away with the cash prize – despite some good-natured booing from the audience to persuade him to change his mind.

Instead, in what was a deeply personal move from the stand-up, he announced that he would instead be donating the £1,000 prize to Zoe’s Place.
The decision comes after just last year he headed up a group of many celebrities from near and far who helped raise some much needed funds for the charity as they faced the stark reality of either having to raise a staggering £5 million pounds to save their Liverpool branch or risk closure.
Over the course of several months, Adam helped raise £81,000 at a comedy fundraiser at Blackstock Market with comedians including Jason Manford and John Bishop, as well as joining the other members of Have A Word podcast on a 450km cycle across India.

Thanks to Adam’s efforts as well as those of others, Zoe’s Place was successfully saved after an ECHO campaign and a seismic £2.5 million donation from Home Bargains.
With the night looking like it was about to draw to a close after the wives and girlfriends of the podcasters were welcomed to the stage to soak up the atmosphere, Johnny Bongo announced a fittingly chaotic end to proceedings as he welcomed Boyzlife’s Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy to the stage to end the night.
