Liverpool’s transfer plans have been on the agenda to start the week, including reports of a bid for a teenager in Brazil and accelerating key deals in January.

Liverpool ‘expected’ to bid for 17-year-old Brazilian

Liverpool are reportedly looking at the South American market, with 17-year-old Gabriel Mec expected to be the subject of an offer from the club.

Brazilian journalist Fabio Vargas has reported on X that Gremio are expecting an offer around €15 million (£13m) for the young attacking midfielder.

The official proposal “is expected to arrive early this week,” with the Brazilian club not expected to reject the offer but rather negotiate a higher fee, as is customary!

The Reds have previously been linked with the 17-year-old, with scouts keeping a watchful eye.

Any agreed transfer, however, would not see him immediately arrive at the club as he cannot move to Europe until he is 18 under FIFA regulations; his birthday is in April.

Liverpool have steered clear of the South American market, unlike other Premier League clubs, but it would be timely to make a move for an impressive youngster. FSG would wish they had a second club to facilitate such transfers, though.

Liverpool ‘could accelerate’ transfer plans

Liverpool could look to “accelerate” their transfer plans for a centre-back, winger and central midfielder in January, clubs will be waiting to take advantage of their desperation

• Liverpool fans are furious Micky van de Ven went unpunished for breaking Alexander Isak‘s leg, but wait until you hear ex-ref Dermot Gallagher say he’d be “astonished” if it was a red anywhere on the pitch – this is what we’re up against

Steven Gerrard has offered himself to Liverpool “in any department at any minute of every day,” but he threw his backing behind Arne Slot amid his personal desire to be at the club

Arne Slot has given his squad Christmas Day off for the first time in a long time as there is no Boxing Day game, Virgil van Dijk spoke about making the most of it

Jayden Danns is making positive progress on a return from a lengthy injury layoff, he is due to make a full comeback within the next two weeks – he’d be an ideal option vs. Barnsley

• Italian outlet Calciomercato are reporting AC Milan will make fresh attempts to sign Joe Gomez in January. All we can say is good luck to them, they must think we’ve got a surplus of defenders!

Liverpool FC: On this day

It has already been a year since the 6-3 win at Tottenham, which saw Mohamed Salah become the club’s fourth top scorer of all time after he scored a brace.

In a show of his remarkable feats at the club, he is now third on the list!

Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister were both on the scoresheet as was Dominik Szoboszlai in the first half, with Salah’s goals and a second for Diaz to follow after the break in north London.

Tottenham attempted to make it interesting by making it 5-3 late on, but the damage had been done and Liverpool moved four points clear at the top of the table.

A nice early Christmas present against Tottenham two years in a row.
