Two men have been arrested after a spate of bag-snatching in Liverpool city centre. Six robberies were reported between December 4 and 14, with witnesses describing a male on an electric bike trying to grab people’s bags at the height of the Christmas shopping rush.

Two men, aged 18 and 22 years, from Toxteth were arrested on suspicion of robbery yesterday, December 21. They have both been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries to be carried out, Merseyside police said.

Detective inspector Stephen Ball said: “This will have been a terrifying experience for the victims to have experienced and thankfully no one was seriously injured.

“Although we have arrested two men we are continuing our enquires with a number of lines to investigate.

“I would appeal to anyone who has information could support our ongoing enquiries to please contact us and prevent violence in our community.”
