Major disruption is expected on services between Manchester and Yorkshire
Several TransPennine Express services are affected(Image: Manchester Evening News)
Passengers are being urged to plan ahead if they are making trips by train across the Pennines over the next two days. As Christmas looms ever closer, people will be preparing to make journeys home to see family ahead of the big day.
But major engineering works taking place between Manchester and Leeds mean some railway lines are closed today (December 23) and tomorrow, Christmas Eve. National Rail says engineering work is taking place between Huddersfield, Brighouse and Dewsbury.
It is affecting all routes which travel via Huddersfield. TransPennine Express services are particularly affected by the issue. National Rail says no TransPennine Express services will operate between Manchester and Leeds via Huddersfield today or tomorrow.
Services from Manchester which usually continue past Huddersfield towards Leeds and beyond are terminating in Huddersfield instead. Meanwhile, several services which usually reach Manchester from places including Newcastle, Scarborough and York are terminating at stations in Yorkshire, east of Huddersfield.
Rail replacement buses will be in use in the affected area. Meanwhile, Northern services between Manchester Victoria and Leeds which usually run through Dewsbury are being diverted through Bradford, while some local services in West Yorkshire are also impacted.
Passengers are being asked to check the latest situation on their service before they travel. See full details for the changes here.
