Manchester United have been told that Benjamin Sesko is experiencing the same problems as Rasmus Hojlund did. Ruben Amorim’s striker signing has endured a challenging start to his first season at Old Trafford with just two goals to his name from 13 appearances.
A knee injury and the form of Mason Mount has seen him offered limited minutes in United’s front three alongside Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. With the latter away at AFCON, Sesko could be set for an extended run in the team having recently returned from a five-week absence.
However, Paul Parker has explained why he expects him to continue struggling. The former United defender has referenced Hojlund’s difficulties in his analysis of how the Slovenia international’s strengths are not being utilised.
He told British Gambler: “You look at Benjamin Sesko and the goals he’s scored, it makes me wonder whether Manchester United sent anybody to actually watch him play. When he was at Leipzig, there were lots of balls coming into the box and those big-angle passes being hit at him from deep for him to run on to.
“He was scoring all kinds of goals there, and at United they’re feeding him breadcrumbs. The players in behind him aren’t giving him the opportunities, so he’s having to do a lot of the work himself which is of course expected, you have to give a little bit back sometimes.
“That was Rasmus Hojlund’s issue, too. He struggled in the Premier League because he wasn’t fed enough, but also agility-wise and quickness of feet, they were reasons he struggled, too.
“That’s why he’s been given the opportunity to flourish in the Serie A, because the pace of that league is nowhere near the speed of the Premier League.”
Hojlund has impressed since joining Napoli on loan this past summer with six goals and two assists from 17 appearances, including decisive strikes against Juventus and Sporting CP
In his most recent outing, the Dane helped Antonio Conte’s side win the Supercoppa Italiana courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Bologna.

Following that triumph, Hojlund appeared to poke fun at United with an Instagram caption which read: “What a great decision looks like.”
The 22-year-old’s career at United is almost certainly over, but Sesko is just at the start of his with United’s head coach Amorim confident he can hit the heights expected of him.
He said: “He’s returning to competition really fast. He’s going to improve a lot. The idea was 70 to 75 minutes. He stopped for a while and we are trying to help the players.”
Sesko will be eager to find form over the coming weeks with United facing four fixtures over the next 12 days. A potential injury for Bruno Fernandes has furthered the need for him to start directly contributing in front of goal.
Newcastle and Wolves are both set to visit Old Trafford after Christmas before Amorim’s side face Leeds United and Burnley away from to kick off 2026.
