A Hollywood A-lister brought some unexpected festive cheer to a Glasgow charity’s Christmas celebration at the weekend. Ewan McGregor, the Perth-born Star Wars legend, turned up at the G20 Youth Project’s annual Christmas party in Maryhill on Sunday (December 21).

The 54 year old was all smiles as he posed for photographs with families at the event. Sporting a G20 beanie hat, he flashed a peace sign for the camera before swapping his headgear for a Grinch head bopper whilst chatting with delighted attendees.

The actor was joined by Still Game favourites Gavin Mitchell and Sanjeev Kohli, alongside BBC radio personality Tam Cowan and Taggart’s Colin McCredie. Stars including Dougary Scott, Ray Winstone and Two Doors Down’s Jonathan Watson also contributed video messages sending their festive wishes to guests.

The celebrity contingent mucked in by dishing up Christmas dinner to those in attendance, while radio presenter George Bowie provided the seasonal soundtrack for the evening.

Taking to social media, the charity described the occasion as an “absolute belter”. The post stated: “Absolute belter of an evening with our community thanks to the wonderful, big hearted Guy Cowan who cooked a delicious meal and rounded up support for our project.”, reports the Daily Record.

The festive gathering sparked an outpouring of admiration from fans online, with many praising the Scottish stars for their involvement.

One attendee commented: “Absolutely brilliant a stellar cast of great Scottish talent celebrating the Maryhill community the G20 project.

“Merry Christmas to you all and a happy and prosperous and peaceful new year 2026.”

Another added: “Was such a fab day for G20 kids and adults. So glad I could be part of it this year again. Well done to everyone.”

A third remarked: “This is absolutely brilliant!”.

Actor Colin McCredie commented: “A pleasure to help out and meet everyone!”.

While Gavin Mitchell said: “Great night, great fun ! Absolute pleasure. Merry Christmas everyone!”.

Meanwhile, Ewan McGregor has recently opened up about contemplating stepping away from his acting career due to the strain of being apart from his American wife.

Speaking at the Scottish Bafta awards, the Hollywood star confided in the audience about his struggles with separation from Mary Elizabeth Winstead, whom he wed in 2022.

The couple, who have a 13-year age gap, first crossed paths whilst filming the TV series Fargo in 2017.

McGregor rose to prominence during the 1990s through acclaimed films including Brassed Off, Shallow Grave and the iconic Trainspotting, which debuted in 1996. Since then, he has stepped into the legendary shoes of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and will be reprising the role for a Disney+ original series in 2022.

He’s also starred in notable films such as Moulin Rouge!

in 2001 and T2: Trainspotting in 2017.
