Uber has announced that it will be offering NHS nurses and other frontline health workers discounted taxi rides and cut price meals this Christmas day as part of its long running festive support programme.
Now in its ninth year, the initiative gives staff with an NHS email address and Health and Social Care (HSC) workers in Northern Ireland access to £10 off two Uber rides on December 25, along with a £10 Uber Eats voucher that can be used on meals or groceries.
Uber said the annual offer is designed to recognise the thousands of healthcare workers who spend Christmas caring for patients rather than celebrating at home
The campaign also aims to ease the burden on staff working over the festive period, many of which rely on taxis due to limited public transport on Christmas Day.
To receive the discounts, eligible staff must make sure their Uber account is linked to their official NHS or HSC email address by 11.59pm on Sunday, December 21.
The move has been welcomed by Spencer James, money saving expert at NHS Discount Offers, who said: “We are all indebted to the incredible NHS and HSC workers who selflessly care for the nation over the festive season.
“This initiative by Uber is a simple but meaningful way of acknowledging just how grateful we all are for the vital work healthcare staff do both at Christmas and throughout the year.
“It’s great to see Uber giving health staff workers a chance to ease the burden of a busy festive period, and enjoy a well earned meal.”
The company confirmed that the codes must be used on December 25 and will be subject to standard Uber terms and conditions.
Other things to know:
- Codes expire at 11.59pm on December 25
