A man has been arrested following a serious assault outside a bar in Enniskillen in the early hours of Christmas Eve.

Police were contacted shortly after 12am on Wednesday reporting that a man had been punched to the head by another man in the East Bridge Street area.

Officers attended the scene, however the injured man had already been taken to hospital for treatment.

His injuries are described as serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.

District Commander Superintendent Cunningham said a 32-year-old man matching the description of the suspect was later located and arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Following a search, he was further arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class C controlled drug. The man remains in police custody.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would ask that anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened, or who has any information, to contact police on 101,” Superintendent Cunningham said.
