A man is fighting for his life after a shooting incident in the Black Country town of Willenhall. The incident occurred on Wordsworth Road, just hours before Christmas Eve.

Two men, aged 50 and 27, have been arrested by West Midlands Police on suspicion of attempted murder. West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) was alerted to the situation at 7.28pm on Tuesday, December 23.

In response, WMAS dispatched two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic to the scene, reports Birmingham Live.

Upon arrival, they discovered a man in his 20s who had sustained life-threatening injuries. He received advanced trauma care before being urgently transported to hospital.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “Two men have been arrested after a man was found in Wordsworth Road, Willenhall, with a suspected gunshot wound last night.

“We were alerted by ambulance colleagues at around 7.30pm and attended the scene where the man in his 20s was being treated by paramedics.

“He was later taken to hospital with injuries which are believed to be life-threatening. Following quick-time enquiries two men aged, 50 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in custody today as investigations continue.

“We’re carrying out door-to-door enquiries alongside retrieving and reviewing CCTV footage from the area as we work to establish the exactly what has happened.

A spokesperson for WMAS stated: “We were called at 7.28pm to reports of a shooting on Wordsworth Road in Willenhall.

“Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene. Upon arrival we found one patient, a man.

“He was assessed and had sustained life-threatening injuries. He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”
