A restaurant has confirmed it is “open and running” after a kitchen fire on Tuesday evening. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) was called to Noya Mediterranean Restaurant on Ford Road in Upton at around 8.50pm on December 23, following reports that a grill had caught fire.

Footage shared on social media shows flames at the rear of the building, with thick black smoke billowing into the air. Posts online claimed the restaurant was fully evacuated and the incident was dealt with safely.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Noya said: “Everyone here at Noya would just like to address the incident that occurred last night. Our kitchen sadly had an external small fire. Thankfully nobody was hurt, and there is no damage caused.

“We’d like to thank the fire brigade and firefighters who attended the scene. Following this, Noya will still be open and running from 3.30pm this afternoon. We’d like to thank everybody for their concerns.

“Merry Christmas to all our lovely customers. Team Noya.”
