The dreaded task of Christmas food shopping is over for another year as supermarkets have closed ahead of Christmas Day. Fridges and cupboards will be packed full of treats and drinks ready for the big day. It is worth a final check to ensure the contents of your kitchen do not consist of anything that has been recalled.

Products are regularly recalled from supermarkets by the Food Standards Agency. Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be taken off the shelves or recalled, when customers are asked to return the product.

Under some circumstances, foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. FSA work closely with local authorities and the food industry to publish alerts to consumers when food products are recalled.

We have rounded up the latest product recalls and what shoppers should do if they are in possession of an affected product. You can see further details below:

Tesco recall

Advice shared by The Food Standards Agency, said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not consume them.

“Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required. For more information contact Tesco Customer Services at tesco.com/help/contact.”

Tesco stated: “No other Tesco products are affected by this recall. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Aldi recall

Aldi has issued an urgent recall for a festive food product as it contains eggs which have not been mentioned on the label. The supermarket’s Christmas Mozzarella Sticks in Blankets have been taken off shelves and customers in possession of them are urged to return them to a local store.

Risk statement: product contains egg making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg.

The FSA said in an alert: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to egg do not eat it. Instead return it to your nearest Aldi store for a full refund. For further details, please visit help.aldi.co.uk or contact customer services on 0800 042 0800.”

Aldi said: “We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”

Aldi recall

Aldi is taking the precautionary step of recalling a chocolate product and taking it off shelves. Dairyfine Salted Caramel Filled Gonks may contain peanuts which are not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.

Aldi stated: “As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Dairyfine Salted Caramel Filled Gonks because it may contain peanuts. Customers are asked to return the product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.”

Disaronno Originale

An alcoholic drink that is popular over the festive period has been recalled and taken off shelves. Illva Saronno S.p.A is recalling Disaronno Originale because of the possible presence of small pieces of glass within some bottles of product, which could make it unsafe to drink.

Asda recalled Asda 10 Mini Duck Spring Rolls with Hoisin Dip because the product has been labelled with an incorrect use by date making the product unsafe to consume.
