For some businesses, Christmas is a time to kick back and relax – but for this Sheffield coffee shop it’s a time to celebrate the community.

Opened in August 2022, Chantrey Press was founded by local residents Paul and Lindsay Melbourne and has been serving the locals of Woodseats a “real community” in Sheffield – ever since.

The coffee shop has always offered a “cosy feel” but especially on Christmas, staff explained how it was so important to continue offering the same “community love” at a time when people may need it most.

Open from 9am until 12noon, Barista Holly explained how running the Christmas shift was particularly special. Holly said: “The community feel in Woodseats is insane. There is so much humanity in this nook of Sheffield and opening the cafe – even for a little bit – is a way to really serve the locals who love us, as much as we love them.”

Holly, whose mum had kindly volunteered to “pot wash” and man the till, explained that Christmas is not always an “easy period” for some of the more elderly locals.

Holly said: “So many customers come in and open up about their feelings – whether they are grieving or simply alone on Christmas. Opening the cafe allows for those who may feel a bit lonely to come and be part of a family.”
