A former social club which was gutted by fire is to be demolished.
Manor Social Club, in City Road, Sheffield, was left in a “poor and unsafe” condition after a blaze ripped through the building in December 2024.
Sheffield City Council said it had made “numerous efforts” to speak with the owners of the building but had “been unable to engage with them” and, as a result, had taken the decision to demolish the property.
The council said it would be looking to recover the cost of the work, set to start in January, and the “considerable” amount spent on security at the site.
Ben Miskell, chair of the council’s transport, regeneration and climate policy committee, said it was “sad” to see the condition the building had been left in.
“Since the fire, we have maintained 24-hour security to prevent people going into what is an incredibly dangerous site,” he said.
“Despite the numerous attempts to engage the owners, sadly, it has come to the point where the city council needs to act, and demolition of the building is the appropriate option given the ongoing risks.”
The authority said it was urging the owners to come forward to discuss the future of the building with officers as “quickly as possible”.
