Sheffield United have been linked with a move for Ipswich Town winger Jack Clarke this winter.

Sheffield United are believed to be interested in an ambitious swoop for the attacker ahead of the January transfer window, according to The Star. SUFC have the chance to bring in some new faces this winter ahead of the second half of the season.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has since said there is ‘no chance’ he will be sold to the Blades next month. Therefore, Chris Wilder may need to start looking at potential alternatives in his position.

The South Yorkshire outfit are sat in 18th place in the Championship table after 22 fixtures. They are nine points off the play-offs behind Millwall in 6th and seven above the drop zone.

Sheffield United won 3-0 at home to Birmingham City last time out so should be in confident mood. Tyler Bindon, Gustavo Hamer and Patrick Bamford got their goals against the Blues at Bramall Lane, whilst Tommy Doyle was also sent off against his former club.

The Blades are back in action on Boxing Day as they aim to build some momentum and climb up the league. They face an away trip to the Racecourse Ground to play Wrexham.

Sheffield United should target Portsmouth ace Josh Murphy

Sheffield United should target Portsmouth’s Josh Murphy if they can’t sign Clarke from Ipswich Town. SUFC could do with some more firepower at the top end of the pitch.

Murphy, 30, has been a key player since his move to Pompey in 2024. He penned a new deal earlier this year until 2028 but they could still face a battle to keep hold of him.

The ex-England youth international has made 56 appearances for the Hampshire club in all competitions to date and is one of the first names on their team sheet under John Mousinho. He has chipped in with seven goals and an eye-catching 19 assists.

If he joined the Blades, he would inject more quality into Wilder’s starting XI. In addition, he could provide more competition and depth on the wing.

Josh Murphy’s Portsmouth stats

Why Portsmouth winger Josh Murphy would suit Sheffield United?

Murphy is a proven in the second tier and would be ideal for Sheffield United. He is experienced and would be able to make an instant impact at SUFC.

Strikers like Bamford, Danny Ings, Tyrese Campbell and Tom Cannon would thrive off his service. Younger players like Oli Arblaster, Andre Brooks and Harrison Burrows would also learn a lot from him in the dressing room.

The Blades are still an attractive team to join, despite their poor term to date. Getting someone like Murphy would be a big statement of intent as they still aim to get into the top six.
