Leeds United are expected to be busy in the January transfer window, with Daniel Farke expected to be after a new attacking signing, having failed to sign Harry Wilson in the summer.

With Dan James injured until the end of January and expected to be missing for even longer as he goes through rehab and individual training, Leeds are lacking in attack – even more so than in the summer.

Plenty of options have been linked with Leeds in recent weeks. Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling has been linked with Leeds, while Fabrizio Romano says Serie A star Martin Baturina has rejected the chance to join Leeds.

Harry Wilson opened the door to a potential January move away from Fulham, but the chances of Fulham selling to Leeds seem unlikely. Now, Frank Lampard has made a move for another player on Leeds’ radar.

Do Leeds even NEED signings after enjoying success with a 3-5-2 formation?

We speak about what is possible (privately) but it’s not my job to speak in public about it or judge it in any way. I deal with what I’ve got. Of course I want the best possible squad, the best possible players and to improve the players as much as possible, but I don’t own the club

Lampard looks to use Chelsea connection for Leeds target

The reason Leeds failed to sign Wilson in the summer was due to Fulham’s inability to complete a £22m deal to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea. The England U21 international has since remained at Chelsea.

But his game time has plummeted with Chelsea now in the Champions League, and not the Conference League like last season, where he made a name for himself. Leeds are weighing up a move for George.

However, according to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have received an approach from Blues legend Frank Lampard to take him to Coventry City. An ambitious move, given they remain in the Championship.

“George wants to leave in January and his agents are actively working on it, Chelsea will sell for the right fee. Lampard has approached George and asked Chelsea about him for a January move to Coventry.”

Six points clear of the bottom three – Leeds can start to relax… can’t they? 😤

Daniel Farke’s change in formation could affect his transfer plans

Before the switch to 3-5-2, many believed Leeds needed an attacking midfielder or one who could play from out wide and drift inside. The likes of Wilson, Baturina or even Sevilla’s Ruben Vargas are perfect.

But the change to 3-5-2 has not only removed the need for wingers like Tyrique George, but it is actually much more focused on the defence. If anything, Leeds need to sign another centre-back next month.

With Sebastiaan Bornauw a target for Koln, and trio Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Jaka Bijol starting, there is a need for a centre-back. Perhaps, also, up front. But in this system, it doesn’t feel like it’s required.
