COPS have locked down a popular park after a person was raped in an early morning attack on Christmas Eve.

The incident happened at Queens Park, in the southside of Glasgow, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Cops have since taped off a large area of the park, as enquiries are on-going.

Police Scotland said officers would remain in the area while they establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A source said that safety lights installed throughout the park were not working during the night in question.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are investigating a reported serious sexual assault in the Queen’s Park area of Glasgow, which is believed to have taken place between 12.30am and 1am on Wednesday, December 24.

“Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and there remains a police presence in the area.”

Police Scotland were unable to confirm whether the victim was male or female.

It’s understood no arrests have been made so far.

A number of women have been subjected to sexual assaults in the popular park over recent years.

One of the worst cases includes Moira Jones, 40, who was abducted yards from her home and forced into the park where she was raped and murdered.

Her body was discovered by a park ranger behind a privet hedge in the middle of Queen’s Park in May 2008.

The sales executive’s killer, Marek Harcar, was later jailed for life.
