George Scott’s ZAPPATA had a bit in hand when getting off the mark at Wetherby on Sunday and a 6 lb penalty seems unlikely to stop him if showing up in a similar mood this afternoon. Southwell winner I Can Boogy wasn’t seen to best effect when sixth here on Easter Monday and should figure, while Bigfield Dream wouldn’t be the first Alice Haynes handicap newcomer to improve for cheekpieces and needs monitoring for market support.

MYSTICAL STORM posted a couple of promising efforts last autumn for Julie Camacho, including when third in a similar event over course and distance, and is the one to beat returning in this novice with further improvement likely. Double Parked arrives on the back of a couple of placed runs on the all-weather at Newcastle and is second choice ahead of Evangelic whose best effort last year came when third in a maiden at Newbury.

LOTHLORIEN did well to overcome inexperience when making a winning start at Beverley for Kevin Ryan last August and can return in style here at the chief expense of fellow debut scorer Fluorescence who also has better days ahead of her after her ready win at Southwell last October. Last month’s Ripon winner Angelic Bugler and Michael Dods’ debutant Call Me Betty appeal as the pick of the rest for minor honours.

A few with chances in this five-furlong dash but Tracy Waggott’s LADY OF THE GARR can race off the same mark as when a very good second to Kranjcar here over six furlongs ten days ago so edges the vote. Latin Five was only narrowly beaten when third in an apprentice race at Catterick last time and is next on the list, with Pam Sly’s new recruit from Ireland Ginormous and veteran course-and-distance scorer John Kirkup also in the mix.

A few of these arrive with a question mark against them so this looks a good opportunity for Brian Ellison’s NORTHERNER to capitalise on a handy-looking mark and gain her breakthrough success as she wasn’t beaten far when fifth on last month’s return at Nottingham. Sergeant Mayer was beaten a neck in the same race and is feared most ahead of Let’s Go Hugo who’s been fourth in both his starts this spring and has another go in cheekpieces.

SEE THAT STORM went the right way in handicaps upon joining Ed Bethell last season, bringing up the hat-trick over this course and distance on his final start in September. Appealing as the type to rate higher still as a four-year-old, he can make light of an absence a defy the handicapper once more. Easy Newcastle winner Creatif is another who appeals as the type to progress further and is feared, as is the well handicapped Lord Protector.

Mark Walford’s KIMEKO GLORY was evidently well served by the increase in trip when making a winning return from four months off at Beverley last week. The manner of that victory suggests a 6 lb penalty may not be enough to prevent her making a bold bid to follow up. Handicap debutants Divine Legacy and Gennadius are others to consider, with Blueandtangerine another to keep an eye on over a distance that promises to suit.
