While many places stayed shut on Thursday, a hugely popular North East bakery, where you’re always likely to spot a queue outside, was open for business and ended up selling out of food. And it was also expecting the same brisk trade on Boxing Day too.

Now, when it comes to food and drink, you know we here at ChronicleLive like to write about it a lot, which makes Christmas the perfect time to celebrate all the great places we have for a bite to eat in the region and check a few of them out! One of the most buzzed about food openings of the last 12 months has got to be Savour bakery in Gateshead.

No sooner had the business opened on Coatsworth Road, there were were people queuing down the street pretty much every morning o check out their delicious looking cake and bakes. Thanks to being posted about a lot on Instagram and TikTok, Savour swiftly became one of the most in demand places for North East foodies to visit and, reporting on Savour back in March, The Chronicle revealed that by mid-morning nearly every day, the bakery was selling out of its goods, which they say are ‘crafted with love and dusted to perfection.’

Christmas is a time when many of us love to tuck into some freshly baked treats and those hoping to have some for afters on Christmas Day itself would need to have got down to Savour nice and early on Thursday, as a post appeared on its Instagram by early afternoon to announce that they’d completely sold out.

For anyone who missed out on Thursday, Savour re-opened bright and early at 8am on Friday, taking to Instagram to post: ‘We’ll be open until 2pm, so be sure to come early to avoid missing out. Thank you for the love and continued support — it truly means everything to us.’
