Saracens have announced that Wales and British and Irish Lions scrum-half Tomos Williams will join them from Prem Rugby rivals Gloucester for the 2026/27 campaign.

Williams has spent the last year as club captain at the Cherry and Whites and earned widespread acclaim for his outstanding performances at both club and international levels.

The 30-year-old, who was crowned as the 2024/25 PREM Player of the Season, joined Gloucester in 2024 from United Rugby Championship outfit Cardiff, the club where he first came through the academy system.

Williams played in more than one hundred matches for his hometown side after making his senior debut at just 18 years of age.

On the international stage, Williams represented Wales’ U18 and U20 sides with distinction before joining World Rugby’s sevens circuit during a short stint in 2013.

He received his first senior Wales call up in May 2017 for their Tests against Tonga and Samoa.

Made a try-scoring Test debut

Although he was named on the replacements bench for Wales’ Test against Samoa in Apia that year, Williams’ international debut came one year later on his country’s summer tour to the USA and Argentina when he scored a crucial try in their 22-20 victory against the Springboks in Washington DC.

Since then, Williams has become a mainstay in the Wales squad, featuring at the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups and starting every match of their 2025 Six Nations campaign.

His excellent form for club and country earned him selection for the British and Irish Lions’ summer tour to Australia.

After playing off the bench in the famous touring side’s loss to Argentina at the Aviva Stadium, Williams was named in the Lions’ starting line-up for their clash against the Western Force in Perth.

Williams delivered a fine attacking performances as he scored a brace of tries in that encounter, but his tour was cruelly cut short when he sustained a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the remaining fixtures.

He is delighted to begin the next chapter of his career at Saracens.

‘ I’m looking forward to joining them in the summer’

“I’m really excited to be joining Saracens, a club I have always admired,” said Williams. “There are great coaches and players at the club and I’m looking forward to joining them in the summer.”

Meanwhile, Bristol Bears have announced that Argentina second-row Pedro Rubiolo has signed a new long-term deal with the PREM Rugby outfit.

At the age of 23, Rubiolo has already established himself as one of the premier locks in world rugby.

Rubiolo, who joined Bristol from Newcastle Red Bulls in 2024, has already made 32 Test appearances for Los Pumas and helped his country to iconic victories over the Springboks and All Blacks in 2024 and 2025.

Bristol Bears director of rugby Pat Lam is happy that Rubiolo has agreed terms on his new contract.

“We’re absolutely delighted that Pedro has chosen to commit his long-term future to the Bears,” he said. “At just 23 years old, he is already one of the outstanding second rows in the global game.

“Since arriving in Bristol, his impact has been exceptional, and he has quickly earned the respect of his teammates and everyone across the club.

“His physicality and work rate are clear to see, but just as impressive is his relentless competitiveness. Pedro fights for everything in both matches and training, and his attitude sets him apart.

“He is intensely focused on his growth and development, eager to learn every day, and fully committed to becoming the best version of himself.”

Rubiolo said: “I am really enjoying my time at Bristol Bears. From the first day, the club has made me feel very welcome and I love the way we work, train and play together.

“I’m very excited to commit my long-term future here. I believe in what the club is building and I want to keep improving, growing as a player and helping the team achieve special things.”
