VSS provides free and confidential support across Scotland through a helpline, webchat, and in-person services.

The organisation is also reminding people that financial assistance is available through its Emergency Assistance Fund (EAF).

The fund covers essentials such as food, utilities, clothing, travel to a place of safety, and security equipment and is accessible to people who have been financially impacted by crime who have no alternative funding options.

Debbie Adams, director of development and external affairs at Victim Support Scotland, said: “Crime doesn’t stop over the festive period and neither does our team at Victim Support Scotland.

“We know that this time of year can feel isolating for people impacted by crime, and that certain crime types, like domestic abuse, often increase over the holidays.

“It’s crucial that people know that VSS staff and volunteers are ready to provide support over the public holidays.

“A compassionate and knowledgeable conversation can go a long way to easing anxiety – and we can offer that and more.”

Ms Adams emphasised that support is available regardless of whether the crime has been reported.

She said: “Help is available in local communities across Scotland and we can support you after any type of crime.

“Even if you’ve not reported it to the Police, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for free, compassionate and confidential support.”

Applications to the EAF will continue to be processed quickly over the festive period.

Staff and volunteers will be available to help people complete their applications if needed.
