Shoppers rushed out early to Leeds city centre to take advantage of the Boxing Day sales.
They’ve said it “wasn’t as busy as it used to be” with shops failing to match the “hype” of previous years. They’d headed out in the morning to beat the rush expected later in the afternoon.
The shops in Leeds city centre weren’t particularly busy this morning. You can see 16 photos of the high street, here. We are also running a live blog with the latest Boxing Day sales, here.
Sweta Singh, 35, was one of the shoppers who had headed out into town intent on snapping up a deal before they were sold out. Sweta had her eye on deals from Zara and H&M.
Sweta said: “I’ve come for the shopping, all the sales which are going on at the moment. There are lots of sales and everything is very cheap. I’m just going to Leeds city centre. I’m going to Zara, H&M and maybe some other shops.

“It will be very busy. That’s why I came in the morning. In the afternoon, you won’t even get the option to choose whatever you like. So that’s why I came in the morning. Currently, it’s less busy than I expected.”
Adam came out to shop for the deals but was disappointed. Adam said: “It’s way less busy than I expected. The sales have not been too bad. A few shops have them and few shops don’t. I don’t feel like it’s what it used to be with the big hype of boxing day sales. I went to Decathlon and Zara.”

Michael Dixon was out shopping with his 29-year-old daughter. Michael said: “I’ve come out for the sales to buy clothes, that’s it. Just to get cheap clothes. I’m with my daughter. They’ve just gone into Flannels now. A lot of stuff isn’t open yet but we have our usual haunts. Vivienne Westwood and Hip, it’s more of the high end clothes we’re looking at.”
Tom Lambert, 79, was visiting town with his daughter and their dog. Tom said: “I’ve visited my daughter for Christmas and today we’ve just been out for a walk with the dog. Her car was parked in the city centre and we’ve come back for it. I thought it would be busier, actually, but it isn’t. It isn’t busy at all.”
