A historic eight-bedroom Georgian country house with a guide price of £4.25 million is up for sale.

Barkham Square Park, in Barkham, Wokingham, was once owned by the Royal Family of Jordan.

The Grade II Listed property spans from 17,426 to 25,429 sq. ft, and has six bathrooms and five reception areas.

According to the listing, the property – which has not been sold in over 30 years – is said to have origins dating back to the mid-18th century.

Over the decades, it has housed significant figures including Charles Gery and the Revd Witting Colton, a wealthy Georgian cleric and vicar of Reading St Giles, as well as Captain Allen and Colonel William Archer.

The estate even thrived as a hub for agricultural advancements under Peter Green, a pioneer and High Sheriff of Berkshire, in the early 19th century.

In the late 19th Century, it hosted parish gatherings, school treats, and jubilee celebrations under the stewardship of Captain Charles Bunce Greenfield and his wife, Ethel.

By this time, Barkham Square Park was recognised as a centre of community spirit, hosting gatherings and celebrations for the local public.

Its enduring charm through centuries is said to have been showcased by its architecture and majestic grounds.

The property is approached by electric gates and a driveway which winds through a park scattered with old oaks.

It has distinguished chimneys and a semi-circular bow on the southern facade.

Inside, an entryway vestibule leads to a grand reception hall, fitted with a sitting area and stairs.

The hall connects to a drawing room, a sitting room, and a study, all of which offer views of the parkland.

The sense of historical charm continues into the dining room and the well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room, furnished with a period black and white marble floor.

Barkham Square Park is also rich in leisure offerings, with a Great Hall boasting a full-size antique pool table and a bar.

This space extends into an indoor swimming pool complex, which also contains a gym.

There is also heated garaging for up to 11 cars, leading to five bedrooms designated for staff accommodation.

The gardens and grounds of this country house have also been subject to significant enhancement by the current owners.

An extensive planting programme introduced features such as the giant sequoia, complementing the oak trees scattered throughout the park.

The north side of the park also houses various outbuildings, including a 12-stall stable block and a 75’6 x 75’6 farm building.
