Jack Robinson scored his first goal for Birmingham City in the 1-1 draw against Derby County

Jack Robinson maintains that Birmingham City are equipped to compete for promotion to the Premier League.
Robinson, who enjoyed life in the Premier League and the upper echelons of the Championship during his Sheffield United days, believes Blues have ‘one of the best squads in the league’.
The League One champions are 14th at the halfway stage of the Championship, six points shy of the play-off places, after a 1-1 draw with Derby County on Boxing Day.
Speaking earlier this season, Robinson suggested Blues possessed the talent to make a push for promotion – and he stands by that opinion.
“It’s up there with one of the best squads in the league, we’re just not showing it at the minute. We’ve hit a bit of a rough patch in terms of form,” said the defender.
“We know the away form has not been good enough, we need to improve on that, and we know as players we need to do more.”
Robinson is referring to an away record that has seen Blues collect just eight points from 12 games away from St Andrew’s.
It is among the worst records in the Championship and is putting pressure on Blues’ impressive home form.
Robinson added: “It’s on the players. We’re just not quite getting it away from home. You can see at home we’re unbelievable on the front foot, we kind of do the same things away and it’s just not clicked.
“It only takes one game to turn it around and you never know what kind of run you’ll get after that.”
Robinson is evidence of how quickly things can change. After two red cards and an own goal in his first four Blues outings, Robinson was maligned by supporters, but he has stepped back into defence of late and few performed better against Derby.
The 32-year-old marked his latest start with Blues’ equaliser against Derby and came within the width of the crossbar of heading home the winner in stoppage time.
He reflected: “I’ve been in this league and this career for a long time and there’s ups and downs all the time. You know, I was disappointed it started like that but I’ve worked hard and Chris (Davies) has been really good with me as well.
“He always said I would get another opportunity and that it was on me to take it when I got it. I’m just trying to improve now and be consistent in those performances.”
