There were extraordinary scenes ahead of Adam Peaty’s wedding to Holly Ramsay as the bride was mobbed by photographers as she arrived alongside her father Gordon.

After popping the question last year, three-time Olympic champion swimmer Peaty tied the knot with Ramsay at Bath Abbey on Sunday, with a star-studded guest list including David and Victoria Beckham, celebrity chef Marcus Wareing and TV presenter Dan Walker.

The couple’s wedding preparations have made headlines in recent weeks, with a bitter family fallout on Peaty’s side seeing him ban all but one member of his family from attending the ceremony.

With so much attention around the wedding and the famous faces attending, there was unsurprisingly a huge press presence outside the abbey as the bride arrived on Sunday, heavily flanked by security.

But while much of the press was assembled in a pen at the front of the venue, there were some unsavoury scenes when other paparazzi photographers reportedly ran from a back door to catch up with Ramsay and her father, and clashed with bodyguards outside of the abbey.

As security formed a barrier around the Ramsays, a scuffle broke out in a narrow alleyway at the side of the venue, with the bride and the Hell’s Kitchen star finding themselves caught up in the middle of the melee.

A source told Hello! Magazine that things “descended into chaos”, with “Gordon and Holly, in her wedding dress, being jostled around just as she entered the church.”

Despite the scuffle, the Ramsays were able to break free with the help of security, and made their way into the abbey.

It is the latest dramatic development in what has been a highly-publicised wedding, with a family rift – reportedly stemming from a row over his mother Caroline not being invited to Ramsay’s hen-do, meaning Peaty’s sister Bethany was the only member of his family to attend the wedding, where she served as a bridesmaid.

Hundreds of members of the public gathered outside the venue

In an interview with the Daily Mail, published on the morning of the wedding, Caroline said: “I don’t think they understand how much they have hurt me; it’s as if they have cut my heart out.

“This is the first Christmas that I’ve not had my family together – my family is broken. Yes, I have my other grandchildren. Yes, I have my other children, but my family is split because of the goings on…because of the wedding.”

She added: “Me going would just cause even more of a storm and I don’t want to ruin his wedding day. I wanted to be there quietly to watch him get married, but that can’t happen now.

“I don’t know if they are too young or don’t value family as much as I have, but they don’t understand that family is the foundation to everything. Family is the foundation you can return to when things get rough. I’ve had that throughout my life.”
