A Corrie icon, a legendary football commentator and several Lionnesses from Greater Manchester have all been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours list. Local community champions, charity bosses and public servants also feature on the annual list in 2026.

A number of local NHS bosses have received honours this year alongside a senior officer at Greater Manchester Police. Manchester council leader Bev Craig is also on the list, alongside Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham’s transport advisor Vernon Everitt.

Former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay, who is originally from Stockport, is among those to be named a Member of the Order of the British (MBE) while Radcliffe-born sports broadcaster Clive Tyldesley becomes an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Lionesses Ella Toone and Alex Greenwood, who play for Manchester United and Manchester city respectively, have also received honours, while fellow England footballer Keira Walsh, who is from Rochdale and plays for Chelsea, is on the 2026 honours list too.
