The rumours are surfacing thick and fast with the January transfer window just around the corner, and the latest player to be linked with Leeds United is currently impressing at AFCON.
Daniel Farke’s switch to 3-5-2 and injuries to Joe Rodon and Lukas Nmecha have highlighted the need for another central defender, with Sebastiaan Bornauw the only cover Leeds have at centre-back currently.
Do Leeds even NEED signings after enjoying success with a 3-5-2 formation?
We speak about what is possible (privately) but it’s not my job to speak in public about it or judge it in any way. I deal with what I’ve got. Of course I want the best possible squad, the best possible players and to improve the players as much as possible, but I don’t own the club

Then, up top, the use of two strikers sees Leeds suddenly lack depth. Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are both injury-prone, and there is a chance that Joel Piroe leaves the club over the next four weeks.
Having failed to sign an attacking midfielder in the summer, Leeds could also go after a player like Harry Wilson and Forest’s James McAtee has been linked. Now, Leeds are eyeing an English-born Porto player.

Reading-born Danny Namaso, 25, is currently on loan at Ligue 1 side Auxerre from Porto. After coming through Reading’s academy and playing 35 times for the Royals, Porto swooped, luring him to Portugal.
After an initial period in the reserves, Namaso has since gone on to have a hand in 24 goals in 106 Porto matches despite only starting 36 of those games. An impressive return from the former Reading star.
With AFCON approaching, Namaso chose to go to Auxerre and get regular game time in the summer. He’s since scored two Ligue 1 goals and has started both AFCON games for Cameroon in Morocco.

AfricaFoot claims Leeds have taken note and are one of four clubs interested. Porto are willing to sell in January if they receive the £4m fee in Namaso’s Auxerre loan. It is unclear what power Auxerre has.

Marc Roca’s Real Betis fighting Leeds for bargain signature
Namaso has the potential to be a real bargain, and his form in Portugal, given a lack of starts, is certainly impressive. Versatile, Namaso can play anywhere in attack – both flanks, behind the striker or up front.
Unsurprisingly, Leeds are not alone in the pursuit of Namaso. Marc Roca and Diego Llorente’s Real Betis are also named as a suitor, as they look to bring the forward to Spain for the first time in his career.
French giants Monaco and Nice are also interested in Namaso, who has a £70m release clause. Whether Namaso wants to leave Auxerre, where he has a loan deal until June, remains to be seen at this stage.
Leeds are in action twice this week, facing Liverpool on New Year’s Day before hosting Manchester United on Sunday at Elland Road. They are the second and third of five games within the space of a fortnight.
