As we bid farewell to the final bank holidays of 2025, it’s time to look ahead to the ones set to grace our calendars in 2026. After the new year, we can expect a few changes, with some holidays moving due to the day they fall on.

For example, this year saw Boxing Day fall on a Friday, but next year it lands on a Saturday. If something like this happens, such as a bank holiday falling on a weekend, a weekday becomes the bank holiday instead.

This is usually set for the following Monday. Because of this, there will now be a substitute bank holiday set for Monday, December 28, 2026.

In total, nine bank holidays are pencilled in across Scotland. This compares to eight across England and Wales for 2026. We Scots get to enjoy the extra bank holiday because of St Andrew’s Day.

In fact, in 2027, we can expect even more days to be moved, with a total of three substitute days scheduled. But before we even think about 2027, here’s the full list of bank holidays for Scotland, England and Wales in 2026.
