Transport for London (TfL) is urging passengers to double check bus routes before heading out on New Year’s Eve amid a number of key changes. Services will run day and night but will operate on a Saturday schedule.
This could lead to longer waits as crowds attempt to get home after ringing in the bells. A number of buses in Central London will also be on diversion, leading to potential confusion.
This is due to the capital’s annual fireworks display requiring large-scale road closures from mid-afternoon until the morning of January 1. Here are the most important routes affected:
- Route 1 will be diverted between Aldwych and St George’s Circus from 1.30pm, with a split service from 6.30pm
- Route 3 will not operate between Kennington Church and Victoria after 5.30pm
- Route 11 will not operate between Victoria and Waterloo after 4.30pm, with earlier diversions in place
- Route 12 will terminate at Lambeth North from 1pm and at Elephant & Castle from 4pm, with additional journeys from 1am to 2am.
- Route 15 will not operate between Aldgate bus station and Trafalgar Square after 6.30pm
- Route 17 will not operate between Holborn Circus and London Bridge bus station after 6.30pm
- Route 19 will not operate between Holborn station and Battersea Bridge after 7.30pm
- Route 38 will not operate between Holborn station and Victoria after 7.30pm
- Route 77 will not operate between Vauxhall and Waterloo after 4pm
- Route 87 will be curtailed to run between Vauxhall bus station and Wandsworth only after 1.30pm
- Route 185 will not operate between Vauxhall and Victoria station after 10.30pm
Superloop route SL6 will also operate on a special service, TfL has confirmed. Additional services will also run on some routes in the early hours, including route 12 (1am to 2am), route 22 (midnight to 2am), and route 188 (12.30am to 5.30am).
Roads will reopen and diversions lifted from 6am on New Year’s Day. However, buses will run then run on a Sunday schedule.
