Tributes have been paid to a beloved woman who had more than 100 cards to open on her 100th birthday.

Audrey peacefully died on December 5, it was announced on a local Facebook page. She turned 100 years old in September this year, with many in Sheffield giving cards, so she had more than 100 to open on the special day.

Joanne Brown, who looked after Audrey, said: “For anyone that may remember Audrey, who was 100 in September and people from the community sent cards which she was overwhelmed with. She sadly passed away peacefully on December 5, but would like to thank everyone who made her day special and lovely memories for her.”

Many people paid tribute to Audrey on the announcement. Tina Morton said: “Aww, lovely Audrey. She was a pleasure to visit.” Maxine Fearn said: “We all loved Audrey.” NR Balloons and Events, which provided the 100-shaped balloons for Audrey’s birthday, said: “Sorry to hear this, rest in peace Audrey.”

Reading the replies was Audrey’s niece, Dawn Bolton. She said: “Thank you so much for your kind and caring messages.”
