The winning image was taken on the Shambles in York and features a dancer performing in the historic street.

The picture was selected from a shortlist of 40 images chosen by photographer Dave Pearson, from Kirkbymoorside, to represent his work from the past year.

More than 4,500 public votes were cast, with the Shambles image emerging as the overall favourite.

The dancer pictured is Jasmine, one of the photographer’s ambassadors who regularly works with him on creative projects.

The image was created during a nighttime photoshoot in York, combining movement with the character of the city.

Dave Pearson, who works under the name Robert David Photographer, said the response to the public vote took him by surprise.

“I honestly didn’t expect it to take off the way it did,” he said.

“People really got behind it, shared it, and voted. To have an image of a dancer taken on the Shambles resonate with so many people is lovely.

“The photograph captures a moment of performance set against one of York’s most recognisable locations, blending dance and street photography in a way that connected with voters.”

The dancer pictured is Jasmine, one of Robert’s ambassadors who dances with Sabatino Performing Arts Academy in Hull. Jasmine said: “I am delighted to have won Post Of the Year 2025! I absolutely loved creating this image and several others on my Christmas photoshoot in York. Dave is honestly the best photographer out there and creates such an easy atmosphere during shoots, I also love being a Robert David Photographer Ambassador. Thank you to everyone who voted for me I am again very grateful.”
