A Glasgow mum is among the cast of the new series of The Traitors, which will take to our screens tonight (Thursday, January 1). Coming hot off the heels of the Celebrity Traitors, which aired in October, the BBC have selected a group of new people to head to Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands to compete for a huge cash prize.
Among the 22 people joining host Claudia Winkleman at the remote castle will be Netty, 24, who will be eying up the prize pot of up to £120,000 in Series 4. However, the nursery school teacher , who is a mum to a seven-year-old, says she won’t be cheating to win
She said: “I won’t be too devious; I would never cheat to win. I don’t condone cheating, but I will do as much as I can up until that point to ensure that I can get along in a game and do as well as I can.”
Netty also said she doesn’t have the best poker face, which could prove an issue at the round tables.
She added: “I’m expressive with my face and with my hands, but I’ll definitely give it a good go.” She said she was a huge fan of the show and applied as she wanted to do something for herself.
“I love the game. I think it is one of the most amazing games you could possibly play. I also wanted to do something for me, so I thought if I could do this, this would be amazing. Purely selfish reasons, but I just wanted to have some fun and do something that allowed me to get a little bit of myself back.”
And she would love Claudia to pick her to be a Traitor. She said: “I think I want to be a Traitor. You just have more fun seeing the whole picture and having that little extra bit of knowledge makes the game a little bit more interesting. So, I’m hoping I can be a Traitor!
“I’m just going to be myself, I get along with most people, but as time is progressing, I feel like maybe being myself is not what I should do, because sometimes people get voted out for just being themselves. I’m just going to ask questions and be curious.
“I don’t think I act my age. In my job, and just generally in life, I’m a little bit out there. I like to have fun, and I like to get along with people and just see what happens in life. I’m curious and I’m probably too enthusiastic at some points, but I think I’ll bring some humour and silliness to it.
“I don’t think I have a detective mode, but I like to question things and find out what’s going on, so hopefully I will do a bit of that as well.”
Netty admitted that missions may be more tricky for her than other contestants.
She added: “I like to do physical things and to challenge myself even though I’m maybe not the most well equipped. I’ve got a limb difference, and some things are more challenging for me than others, but I like to think that I can work my way around it.”
However, she said she could be better at spotting liars adding: “Not everyone is nice and wants to do nice things, and I need to remember that in the game.” If she wins the prize, she plans to see the world with her seven year old.
“I’ve got a seven-year-old, and we live in a tiny little village in Glasgow. She’s already seen snippets of the world, but I just want her to see a bit more of that.
“I love travelling, so anything that means I could go and explore a bit more, I’d love to do.”
Joining Netty will be Matthew, who lives in Edinburgh but is originally from Northern Ireland. The Traitors is on tonight (New Years Day) at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
