An eyewitness told the East Lothian Courier that there was “definitely a big fire” in the Newbigging area of Musselburgh with Pinkie Road and Inveresk Road closed off to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Several fire engines have been at the scene, with police also present and the area cordoned off.

The eyewitness said that four or five fire engines were on site and that emergency services had been there since about 2.15pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident is understood to be ongoing, with crews currently working at the scene.

There is no word at this stage on any injuries or the cause of the incident.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland said: “Newbigging in Musselburgh is closed at Pinkie Road and Inveresk Road, following a report of a fire at a property around 2.25pm on Tuesday, 30 December, 2025. Please avoid the area and use an alternative route.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at around 2.16pm on Tuesday, 30 December to reports of a dwelling fire in Musselburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the town’s Newbigging, where crews worked to extinguish the fire.

“One appliance remains on scene with firefighters working to make the area safe.

“There are no reported casualties.”
