Wales flyer Louis Rees-Zammit has committed his future to PREM side Bristol Bears, inking a new long-term contract at the club after a positive return from the NFL.
The 24-year-old has hit the ground running at the Bears since making his comeback to rugby following a stint in American football and he is loving his new environment.
Bristol Bears regard Rees-Zammit as one of the ‘hottest properties’ in the world and are delighted that he has agreed to put pen to paper on a new contract at Ashton Gate.
Immediate impact
The British & Irish Lions tourist returned to rugby union from the NFL in the summer of 2025 and has made an immediate impact, grabbing six tries in eight Bears games.
Equally comfortable on the wing and at full-back, Rees-Zammit’s devastating pace and power have fitted seamlessly into Pat Lam’s side, with the Wales international clocking an incredible 23.57mph in the 82nd minute of his Gallagher PREM return against Leicester Tigers at Ashton Gate, racing clear for his first score on home soil.
Bristol Bears director of rugby Pat Lam is thrilled that the exciting talent is staying put and believes the best is yet to come from Rees-Zammit in the PREM outfit’s jersey.

“Louis is a world-class talent and someone who embodies the way we want to play at Bristol Bears,” he said before lauding how he has slotted back into rugby with ease.
“Since coming back from the NFL, he’s shown incredible professionalism and hunger to keep improving. His speed, power and skill set are obvious, but what really stands out is his willingness to learn, adapt and deliver on the biggest stage.”
He added: “What’s exciting is that he’s only just scratching the surface of his ability – at just 24-years-old, there’s so much more to come from him. If he keeps progressing on this journey, he has everything it takes to become one of the very best players in the world, and we’re delighted he’s committed his long-term future to the club.”
Perfect club
Rees-Zammit insists Bristol Bears are the “perfect club” for his long-term future and believes successful times are in the pipeline for the West Country outfit under Lam.
“I’m incredibly happy to have committed my future to Bristol Bears. This is the perfect club for me and I’m excited to see what we can achieve here,” said the full-back.
“The environment here allows me to express myself and play the game the way I love, and that brings out the best in me.
“Running out at Ashton Gate in front of huge crowds and feeling that energy from the fans is special, and it makes me excited about what we can build together in the years ahead.”
