The first baby of 2026 was born just 14 minutes into the new year.

Scotland has welcomed its first babies of the new year with a host of new arrivals across the country. The first bundle of joy to enter the world in Scotland in 2026 was a girl born in Ayrshire just 14 minutes after the bells.

Baby Arabella was welcomed into the world at 12.14am by her proud parents Lucy-Jane Bark and Luke Hutchinson, from Stevenston, at University Hospital Crosshouse.

The little one weighed in at a healthy 8lb 9oz. Staff at the unit said: “Huge congratulations to all the family and welcome to the world, Arabella.”

A baby boy Leo Lynch was born next, just minutes later at 12.21am, weighing in at 6lb 10oz. Pround parents Colette and Ryan Lynch, from Port Glasgow, were delighted to welcome their little bundle of joy at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Parents Courtney Brown and Graham Lindsey greeted their baby boy Hunter at St John’s Hospital in Livingston at 12.26am, and he weighed in at 7lb 9oz.

Ms Brown said: “We’re absolutely ecstatic. It’s dad’s first wee boy. We’re over the moon.”

Glasgow’s first baby of the year was born just one minute later at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital. Parents Mr and Mrs Kausar welcomed their 7lb 12oz little girl at 12.27am but haven’t decided on a name yet.

Baby Vincent was the next to arrive at the Glasgow city centre hospital, arriving at 1.22am to delighted parents Emily and Kyle Robertson. The wee bundle weighed 7lb 7oz.

Also in Glasgow, the first baby at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital’s maternity unit was born at 12.31am. The parents haven’t yet confirmed the baby’s name or gender.

Next to arrive was back in Ayrshire, when baby Hugh was born at 2.35am, weighing 9lb 1oz. Hugh is a son for Holly and Lee McLaughlan, from Kilwinning, and brother to 18-month-old Dallis.

Edinburgh’s first newborn of 2026 was a little boy Charlie who was born at 2.45am to parents Alanah Gardner and Oli. His weight is still to be confirmed and Mrs Gardener said: “The midwives have been unbelievable, so well looked after. A great start to the new year.”

In Forth Valley, delighted parents Laura and Scott McIntyre welcomed a baby boy at 2.53am, weighing in at 6lb 9oz. After some consideration the Alloa couple decided to name the little one, Declan Mark.

Speaking to the Record, Scott said: “The most special way to start off the year. Mum, dad, and big brother very happy. Family now complete.”

Ayrshire’s third baby of 2026 was Valerie, who came into the world at 5lb 11oz. She delighted mum Paige Borland and dad, Lee Bown, from Maybole, when she arrived at 3.14am.

The second baby born at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley in 2024 was Hope at 4.38am. Parents Faith Ramage and Jamie Sandford, from Greenock, were delighted at the arrival of their daughter, who weighs 7lb 15oz.

Dunfermline parents Sukhpreet and Ganesh Kaur welcomed the first newborn of the year in Fife at 4:42am. The baby weighed in at 6lbs 11 but mum and dad haven’t decided on a name for their little boy just yet.

Parents Taylor McEwan and Daniel Ballard were delighted to welcome a baby boy, Myles at University Hospital Wishaw. The baby was born at 6.07am and weighed 7lbs exactly.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway confirmed to the Record that three New Year babies had been born in their region. The times of these births, the gender of the babies, and their names have yet to be confirmed.
