Still Game’s Gavin Mitchell has shared unexpected health news with fans on social media, revealing that he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance on Tuesday night. On an Instagram post, he opened up about the “highs and lows” of 2025, sharing that he spent the night at the Royal Infirmary.

Posting two pictures on New Year’s Eve, fans of the comedian were shocked to see him lying in a hospital bed wearing a nasal cannula. The second picture showed the 61-year-old star holding the book ‘Hello Darling’ by Rupert Everett to help him get through his hospital stint.

Including a caption detailing the triumphs and struggles Mitchell and his loved ones had gone through in 2025, the comedian shared that he took an “unexpectedly dramatic visit” to the Royal Infirmary on December 30 after choking on his food, reports the Daily Record.

He went on to add that he had “passed out and stopped breathing”. Thankfully he made it to the hospital and had an endoscopy procedure. He then went on to ease fans’ worries by adding that “hopefully all will be well today.”

The Instagram caption reads: “Well 2025 you have been a cracker of highs and lows but I didn’t imagine bringing it in like this . Lovely to do some nice varied work, old and new.

“From touring my solo show ‘Look Who It Isnae’ and playing President John Adams in a brand new tv series about the White House, to singing Billy Connelly’s ‘Wellie Boot’ song to over 10,0000 at Hoolie at the Hydro, and returning to play dear old Bogie in Morag Fullerton’s award winning adaptation of ‘Casablanca’.”

However the actor, well known for playing Boaby the barman in BBC’s Still Game, added that the year has also had its lows. And he praised his partner Lindsay, who has been struggling with her own health issues.

He wrote: “Lindsay has just been phenomenal in her tolerance , patience and strength still dealing with her own health issues.

“And moi, having bit in bobs but culminating in this… an unexpectedly dramatic visit to the Royal Infirmary last night after choking on my dinner, passing out and stopping breathing. Lindsay broke the door off its hinges and it was an ambulance etc.

“It was all a bit scary for a while but I’ve had a wee endoscope procedure and hopefully all will be well today. Lindsay was also at QEH hospital yesterday for a procedure. As some of you will know it’s been a bit of a year for us both.

“I simply couldn’t have Lindsay stealing the limelight and having the final hospital visit and best drama of the year! We’ve already been on adjacent wards this year. So bring it on 2026, we’re going to kick your ass!”

Looking forward to the year ahead, Mitchell confirmed to fans that they would still be able to see him on BBC’s Hogmanay show, which aired at 11.30pm on December 31.

He wrote: “I’ll see you on the Hogmanay show tonight on BBC 1, be kind and keep yer comments tae yersel…. I’m no weel! And Almost Angelic is going to make your year btw!!! Utterly amazing!!!!!”

Many of Mitchell’s fans and friends have left their well wishes in the comment section, with comedian Kevin Bridges writing: “Get well soon Gav my man x”
