A man has been arrested following a string of ‘distressing’ incidents at knifepoint in less than three hours. Officers were first called out to reports of a man shouting while holding a knife on Peel Hall Road, in Wythenshawe, at 5.55am this morning (January 2).
Around half-an-hour later, at 6.28am, a woman reported being robbed at knifepoint on nearby Calve Croft Road. It is believed that around £160 was stolen during the incident.
Less than two hours later, Greater Manchester Police was called out to Sale Circle Post Office, on Sale Road, Wythenshawe. It was reported at 8.23am that a man armed with a knife had attempted to steal a vehicle, before taking another car at knifepoint.
GMP says the suspect is believed to have driven off in the stolen car while the victim was still inside, before the vehicle crashed with another car. The suspect was seen fleeing the scene, before forcing entry into a nearby property on Carloon Road.
Armed officers were sent out to the property, where a 30-year-old man was arrested. Officers from GMP’s south Manchester, Stockport and Specialist Operations teams were all involved in a major police response.
The suspect remains in custody for questioning this afternoon. Chief Inspector Richard Flanagan, of GMP, said: “This morning’s series of incidents were extremely distressing for those involved and we know will bring concern to the local community.
“Thankfully no-one suffered physical injuries. We are providing support to the victims whilst our investigations progress. There will also be a large police presence in the affected areas, through the help of our specialist neighbourhood officers.”
